This government-approved child protection training course is essential for anyone working with children and young people in childcare, education, health, and community services. It meets mandatory training requirements under relevant state and territory protocols.

The course builds knowledge and awareness of child protection responsibilities. Participants learn how to recognise signs of abuse and neglect, respond appropriately, and support and protect children and young people at risk. It covers emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, neglect, domestic and family violence, as well as child-on-child abuse. These topics are explored in the context of age, gender, disability, culture, and sexuality.

Participants will also develop an understanding of the legal and ethical frameworks surrounding child protection, including the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, relevant legislation, duty of care, and ethical responsibilities.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 6 Hours
Online with face-to-face assessment Face to Face contact time of at least 1 Hour

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

  • An official form of photo identification (e.g., driver’s licence, passport, or student ID).
  • To successfully complete this course, students will need to demonstrate the following language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills during training and assessment:
    • Learning: Can learn by reflecting on real-life situations, asking questions, and applying what I know to new cases
    • Reading: Can read and understand policies, signs of harm, and reporting procedures
    • Writing: Can write clear, factual notes or reports about what I’ve seen or heard
    • Oral communication: Can talk respectfully about sensitive issues and explain what I’ve noticed
    • Numeracy: Can understand timelines, ages, or data shown in documents like forms or reports
    • Digital Literacy: Able to use a mobile phone or basic device to read messages, follow online instructions, complete online forms or access learning resources

This course includes material about child abuse, neglect, and violence, which some users may find distressing. Topics include emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, as well as domestic and family violence. If you feel uncomfortable at any time, you are welcome to pause the course and return to it when you feel ready. Support links are provided within the content.


The online learning program can be found in the student portal. Students must have access to a computer, smart phone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online studies and associated assessment tasks.

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

Documentation:

  • Complete two (2) Child Protection Concern/ Disclosure Records

Theory assessment - A written assessment consisting of case studies and multiple-choice questions.
